Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital

LeAnn currently works at MFB as a full-time Recreation Therapist with patients who have had strokes, amputation and deconditioning diagnoses. LeAnn excels in the areas of program development and patient relations. 

During her free time LeAnn enjoys traveling, reading and spending time outdoors.

Devyn Baker, CTRS, CCLS, ATRIC

Central Michigan University- 1995

University of Michigan Health System Comprehensive Cancer Center

In Devyn's current role he is the Supervisor of Psychosocial Support Services within the Patient and Family Support Services.  Devyn has served in the past as the President of MTRA.

Devyn enjoys spending time with family & friends and tinkering on things.

Melissa VanderLaan, CTRS

Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services

Melissa is currently employed at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services where she works Adult psychiatric inpatient services and partial hospitalization program working with pregnant and postpartum women dealing with perinatal mood disorders such as postpartum depression and anxiety.

Melissa enjoys most anything, but would consider herself a "foodie"- you know...try new restaurants and recipes. She can get lost in a new craft or anything creative (Hello Pinterest)! Time with family, friends & enjoyable people is always leisure to her!

Jenny Baweja, CTRS

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital 

Jenny has a strong passion for raising the "Recreation Therapy Bar". She believes in the power of bringing people's strengths together in order to advance the field, with a particular interest in public policy. Currently, Jenny works with patients who have been diagnosed with strokes, amputations, deconditioning and orthopedic concerns. 

At home, Jenny has 4 boys who love to keep her busy! She enjoys fitness, relaxation and sports.

Ron Coplin, MA. CTRS

Recreational Therapist at Pine Rest Mental Health Services, Activity Therapy Chairperson, Coordinator of the Adult Partial Hospitalization Program.

Ron received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Central Michigan University in Recreation and Parks Administration with an emphasis in Therapeutic RecreationRon has worked as a Recreational Therapist for over 37 years.  Ron is currently on the Advisory Boards for Central Michigan University and Grand Valley State University.  Ron was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Central Michigan University.  At Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services Ron serves as Activity Therapy Chairperson, and Coordinator of Mercy Health Adult Partial Hospitalization Program. Ron has many years of experience and is very interested in serving on the board of MTRA and giving back to our profession. 



Courtney Remy, MS, CTRS

Grand Valley State University- 2005

Special Tree Rehabilitation System

Courtney is excited to serve for a second year on the MTRA board this year to connect and advance Recreational Therapists throughout Michigan. She is employed by Special Tree Rehabilitation System as a contingent Rec Therapist. Her current full-time job is homeschooling her 3 children, ages 6,4 and 2. 

Courtney uses every-day and volunteer opportunities to stay especially connected to the adapted sports communities and educate her children about including people of various abilities in everything. Courtney also enjoys tennis and library programs. Her whole family is involved in serving their church as high school youth leaders, children’s teachers and musicians.

Courtney looks forward to serving and growing with you through MTRA!



Jessica Spooner, CTRS, CDP

Grand Valley State University-2011

Georgetown and Cambridge Manor Assisted Living

Jessica works for Baruch Senior Ministries in Grandville as the Life Enrichment Director and Volunteer Coordinator of an 80 bed Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility. Jessica is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner and trains others on Alzheimer's and Dementia Care through her current employer. Her experience on the MTRA Board of Directors started back in 2010 as the Student Member At Large and she continues to serve on the board as the Member At Large- Membership Liaison.


When Jessica isn’t at work she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and pets, the outdoors and cycling. If you have questions regarding your membership, please contact her!



Randy Wyble

Michigan State University- 1989

Randy received his MS Recreation, Emphasis- TR. Randy is currently employed at Grand Valley State University where he works as an educator.

Randy enjoys photography, travel and camping.




Nick Wahl CTRS

Current Employment: Brookcrest Rehabilitation and Life Center, Grandville, MI

Nick is employed full time at Brookcrest as the Recreation Therapist of the Sub-Acute Rehab unit. Nick sees a variety of patients, with varying diagnoses from patients recovering from surgery to persons who have had a stroke. Nick is also the Volunteer Coordinator at Brookcrest.

In his free time, Nick enjoys a variety of sports, the Great Outdoors (camping and fishing), drawing and reading.

Carlie is currently a full time senior studying at Central Michigan University. In her free time she enjoys spending her time outdoors; camping, hiking, and traveling the great state of Michigan!

Alex is currently a junior at Eastern Michigan University and is proud to be the student representative for his school. He plans to make the most out of this opportunity while growing himself as a professional.

Alex enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.




Megan Chant

Grand Valley State University

Junior at Grand Valley State University

Megan is a junior at Grand Valley State University. She is a board member for Grand Valley’s Therapeutic Recreation Student Association. Her goal as a CTRS is to work in mental health and construct research studies throughout her career. She is a strong advocate for all people with disabilities. She spends her free time volunteering, camping, and spending time with her friends and family.
