Devyn will be starting his 25th year in the profession. In Devyn's professional life he has worked in various settings with a wide range of populations. Devyn started off with his degree in Therapeutic Recreation and went on to become a Certified Child Life Specialist and then a Certified Aquatic Therapist. Devyn is very happy serving as the President of MTRA and for it's members.
In his leisure time he enjoys time with his family (both biological and non-biological) enjoys cuddling and snuggling with his 4 cats, and tinkering and puttering on many hobbies- just depends on the moment as to what you would find him doing.
Melissa VanderLaan, CTRS

Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services
Melissa is currently employed at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services where she works Adult psychiatric inpatient services and partial hospitalization program working with pregnant and postpartum women dealing with perinatal mood disorders such as postpartum depression and anxiety.
Melissa enjoys most anything, but would consider herself a "foodie"- you know...try new restaurants and recipes. She can get lost in a new craft or anything creative (Hello Pinterest)! Time with family, friends & enjoyable people is always leisure to her!
Jessica Spooner, CTRS, CDP

Home & Community Recreation Therapy
Jessica works as a Contracted Recreational Therapist with Home & Community Recreation Therapy. Jessica is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner. During her time as a professional she has worked in sub acute rehabilitation, assisted living, and currently in the community setting. Her experience on the MTRA Board of Directors started in 2010 as the Student Member At Large and she continues to serve on the board as Secretary.
Jessica enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and son, traveling, blogging on her personal blog A Spoonful of Delight as well as with Mid Michigan Moms Blog, walking, and always enjoys a glass of wine.

Ron Coplin, CTRS

Recreational Therapist at Pine Rest Mental Health Services, Activity Therapy Chairperson, Coordinator of the Adult Partial Hospitalization Program
Ron received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Central Michigan University in Recreation and Parks Administration with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. Ron has worked as a Recreational Therapist for over 37 years. Ron is currently on the Advisory Boards for Central Michigan University and Grand Valley State University. Ron was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Central Michigan University. At Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services Ron serves as Activity Therapy Chairperson, and Coordinator of Mercy Health Adult Partial Hospitalization Program. Ron has many years of experience and is very interested in serving on the board of MTRA and giving back to our profession.
Chelsea M. Jacobs, CTRS

Memory Care Manager at University Living Ann Arbor
Chelsea works as a Memory Care manager working with patients that are journeying through end stage dementia. She has an Associates Degree in Business Health Service Management and a Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from EMU.
During Chelsea's free time she enjoys traveling with her husband, gardening, baking, and cooking. Recently, Chelsea has come to love yoga and enjoys practicing yoga for leisure.
Courtney Remy, CTRS

Courtney lives in Midland where she works as a contingent Recreation Therapist in PM+R, but her current full-time job is homeschooling her 5 children plus caring for a new baby. She continues to share her love of Recreation Therapy with them by volunteering for community adaptive sports events together and advocating for people with disabilities. She specifically loves aquatic therapy and helping people with traumatic injuries return to and maintain physical fitness.
Courtney loves biking, rollerblading on Midland's amazing rail trail, and stopping at Cottage Creamery for ice cream along the way. She also enjoys quiet time reading at coffee shops as a change from her chaotic house.

Nicholas Wahl, CTRS, CDP

Memory Care Coordinator at Sunset Manor & Villages
Nick has a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in psychology. He currently practices in Memory Care, but his previous experience is in sub-acute rehab with seniors. His passions are exercise, reminiscing, and cooking with residents with dementia. Nick has served on the MTRA Board for 4 years as Membership Liaison.
Nick enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time in the great outdoors, coaching soccer, reading, and woodworking.

Grand Valley State University- Spring 2021
Sydney is currently a student at GVSU working towards a B.S. in Recreational Therapy. She is originally from Ann Arbor and now lives in Grand Rapids. Sydney is interested in utilizing her Recreational Therapy degree with the geriatric population. She is excited to explore the professional world of RT and all that it holds.
Sydney is interested in anything outdoors! She loves hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, skiing, and more. Recently, she has starting practicing hot yoga and it has become a new leisure interest.
Calvin College - December 2019
Madeline is from Grand Rapids. She will be graduating from Calvin College with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation and a minor in Psychology. Madeline has worked with the geriatric population and has experience in memory care. She is looking forward to exploring new populations as she enters the field this coming spring.
Madeline enjoys spending time with friends and family. She frequently spends her time at Lake Michigan, listening to music, going for drives in the car, and doing arts and crafts.
Eastern Michigan University- December 2019
Riley is a senior at EMU who will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy. She is currently completing her internship at DMC's Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in Novi where she's working with individuals with spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
In her free time, Riley enjoys reading and spending time with her family. In the summer she enjoys playing on a sand volleyball league.
Central Michigan University- Spring 2021
Mikayla went to Plymouth High School and is continuing her education at CMU. She plans to graduate in May of 2021 in Therapeutic Recreation. Currently, Mikayla works as an ABA Technician and sees herself continuing to work with kids who have autism in the future.
Mikayla enjoys listening to music, spending time with friends, sports, hiking, yoga, hammacking, and playing video gams.
